Do I need to be registered with HIS to offer aesthetic treatments in Scotland?
Yes and no. If you own a clinic that provides Group 2 or Group 3 aesthetic treatments, then yes, your clinic must be registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS). However, if you are healthcare professional who provides those treatment you may be able to apply for Practising Privileges in an already HIS registered clinic.

What does a HIS inspection involve?
HIS inspections typically review your patient records, policies, cleanliness, governance systems, and evidence of safe clinical practice. Inspectors will also ask about how you manage risks, consent, complaints, and data protection. We can help you    prepare in full or support you during the inspection itself.

I'm setting up a new clinic. When should I get in touch?
As early as possible. We can support you through the HIS registration process, help draft compliant policies and SOPs, and make sure your systems are inspection-ready from day one.

I’ve already had an inspection and received recommendations. Can you help?
Absolutely. We offer post-inspection support including action planning, updating documents, and improving your internal  processes in line with HIS feedback.

What’s the difference between a policy, an SOP and a risk assessment?
We know it gets confusing. In short: policies outline your clinic's approach, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) explain how tasks are carried out, and risk assessments identify and manage potential hazards. We can create or update all three for you.

Do you offer one-off support or ongoing services?
Both. Some clinics instruct us for a one off project such as registration or inspection preparation. Others work with us regularly for compliance monitoring, audits or ongoing guidance. We tailor our support to suit your need.

I don’t have a big team or complex systems. Do I really need all of this?
Even small, single-room clinics are expected to meet the same HIS standards as larger providers. We help solo practitioners build simple and practical systems that meet the requirements without creating unnecessary admin. It's about making         compliance manageable and proportionate to your setup, whilst still ticking the HIS boxes.

I’ve just been told my HIS inspection is in six weeks. Can you help me prepare in time?
Yes, definitely. We offer focused pre-inspection support, including a review of your policies, patient records, CPD logs and  controlled drug documentation. We can also help organise your evidence folder and prioritise what needs attention, so you feel calm and inspection-ready

Are your services only for medical professionals?
No. Aesthetic clinics can be registered if they have a healthcare professional in place to provide clinical oversight, even if non-medics own them. We support both medically led and non-medical clinic owners by helping set up the right structures, documentation and governance so their clinic meets HIS requirements.
